A Case Study

The UK Sepsis Trust

Brian joined the UK Sepsis Trust in July 2021 and was quickly promoted to oversee fundraising and become part of the Senior Management Team.  He devised the charity's first fundraising strategy, which helped to increase community income by over 20% and  introduced new income streams focussed on sustainable income such as Regular Giving and Legacies that were previously not advertised on the UKST website.

He was instrumental in setting up a quarterly newsletter to reach all supporters through the CRM and update them with news, developments and make further fundraising asks. Touch points with supporters are key in fundraising, and again, this is something he looks to increase with all of the charities and schools he works with.

He developed two successful awareness campaigns. One with schools that has seen over 1,150 UK schools download free PSHE resources for every Key Stage that teach staff and students about the dangers of sepsis, and the signs and symptoms to look out for. The second campaign focuses on awareness in the farming community, where traditionally those suffering from symptoms have been too busy/resilient to seek medical help and have often lost their lives when experiencing sepsis. The farming campaign generated over £200k, including a £70k grant and partnership with NFU Mutual to help fund much of the charity's work in this area, and help spread awareness to all the 216,000 farming customers throughout the UK.

There are additional income streams for both campaigns, through non-uniform days and sponsored walks in schools to fundraising support from Young Farmer Clubs, and both campaigns are scalable, repeatable and have huge opportunities for growth in coming years.
